Ethylene glycol-bis(2-aminoethylether)-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid (EGTA) is used for selective chelation of Ca²⁺, especially for measuring Ca²⁺ in the presence of Mg²⁺. EGTA forms highly stable complexes with Ca²⁺ but binds weakly to Mg²⁺, making it a common reagent in molecular biology.
