OverExpress C43(DE3) is derived from OverExpress C41(DE3) by selecting for resistance to a different toxic protein. OverExpress C43 (DE3) has a greater capacity for expressing toxic and hydrophobic proteins compared to OverExpress C41(DE3). Thus, compared to BL21 (DE3), OverExpress C43(DE3) possesses at least two unknown mutations that confer broader capability for expressing toxic or hydrophobic proteins. This strain contains the DE3 region and expresses both T7 RNA polymerase and *E. coli* RNA polymerase, making it suitable for protein expression using pET, pGEX, and pMAL plasmids.
