Turbo is one of the fastest-growing E. coli strains. Colonies are visible on plates within 6.5 hours, and plasmids can be extracted from liquid culture after 4‒6 hours of shaking. The endA mutation (deficient in endonuclease) improves the yield and quality of plasmid DNA. Turbo can tightly control lacIq expression, enabling the cloning of toxic genes. The fhuA2 mutation confers resistance to phage T1. The presence of lacZΔM15 allows blue-white screening in Turbo.
