JM109 is an ideal strain for extracting high-quality DNA. The recA1 and endA1 mutations facilitate stable cloning of DNA and high-purity plasmid DNA extraction. The hsdR17 genotype background prevents exogenous DNA from being degraded by the endogenous nuclease system. The presence of lacIqZΔM15 enables JM109 to be used for cloning and blue-white screening.
