BCECF AM is a cell-permeable fluorescent dye used to detect intracellular pH. BCECF AM is non-fluorescent and, upon entering cells, is cleaved by intracellular esterases to produce BCECF, which is trapped inside the cell. BCECF can be excited to emit green fluorescence at an appropriate pH. Its maximum excitation and emission wavelengths vary with pH, with an approximate maximum excitation of 503 nm and emission of 520 nm. For practical detection, recommended excitation and emission wavelengths are 488 nm and 535 nm, respectively.
