During apoptosis, specific endonucleases are activated, cleaving genomic DNA between nucleosomes. This generates DNA breaks with exposed 3'-OH ends, which can be labeled by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) using modified dUTP. Since normal cells have minimal DNA breaks, detection of labeled dUTP allows assessment of apoptotic status. This method is known as TUNEL (TdT-mediated dUTP Nick-End Labeling).
Our TUNEL kits use different streptavidin-conjugated labels to detect dUTP, offering options for various experimental needs: FITC (green fluorescence), TRITC (red fluorescence), and HRP (horseradish peroxidase). Appropriate detection methods can be selected based on experimental requirements.
These kits are suitable for in situ apoptosis detection in tissue samples (paraffin-embedded, frozen, and ultrathin sections) and cell samples (cell smears or coverslips).
